HB-EGF

HB-EGF
(= heparin-binding epidermal growth factor)
HB-EGF, like amphiregulin, has a long N-terminal extension that seems to confer the ability to bind to heparin and also to other connective tissue macromolecules (glycosaminoglycans) and cell surface molecules such as CD44. Because it is immobilized the effective local concentration may be much higher and the effects may differ from those of soluble growth factors.
